Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, what soever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, what soever things are lovely, what soever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace be with you. Philippians Chapter 4 Verses 8-9. |

Harold Heyes sent me this reminder from our days back in the mid 50's..........
"What about Wing Commander Partington R N, with his slides in the hall, going through the straits of Malacca" anyone remember him.? Ernie Mills: Yes I remember him very well and we still, even today, mimic him as he had a very pronounced, gruff way of saying ".. the straits of Malacca" |

Ivor Lancashire emailed me this memory from our days with Mr. Grimshaw, 50's ..... Reference your search for Teacher sayings remember Mr Grimshaw ( Engineering Drawing), classroom between the Girls and Boys playground, I think there are a few of us who have suffered the Drawing Board Clip bouncing of our heads for looking at the Girls playing netball instead of Drawing. My memory of Mr Grimshaw was of an extremely smartly dressed Man, ex Glider Pilot who, if he was confronted by a pupil who did not take any notice , used to say "BOY ARE YOU DEAF, DAFT OR INDIFFERENT" Yea! Ivor, I had forgotten about that quote, but your right. It was used quite a lot eh? Ernie |

Front of Triers Prize book, 1963 Thanks to Ken Summers It is surprising what you find in the Loft eh! |
|
Ken says... The prize turned out to be The Pocket Oxford Dictionary. What I asked for was From Russia with Love because I was working my way through the works of Ian Fleming at the time. It was considered inappropriate so I was persuaded to accept the dictionary. The prize was for a book to the value of 5 shillings, the dictionary was priced at 10 shillings so we had to pay the difference. Ironically the Ian Fleming tome only cost 3/6d However I have the dictionary to this day, and I have long since moved on beyond Ian Fleming. |
